Grammy Awards ceremony set for February 12

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 09:08 AM PDT

LOS ANGELES, June 21 — The 54th annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on February 12 and nominations will be announced on November 30, organisers said today. The dates are in line with past years' events.

As usual, the awards ceremony will take place at the Staples Center, and the nominees will be revealed during a televised one-hour concert special for a fourth year.

Both will be broadcast in the United States on CBS under a new 10-year deal that also includes a series of unspecified two-hour Grammy specials.

Next year's awards will be notably streamlined. The Recording Academy said in April that it would slash the number of categories to 78 from 109.

TV viewers will not notice anything, though, since only 10 or so high-profile winners are announced during the performance-heavy ceremony; the rest of the awards are announced beforehand during a fast-paced webcast. — Reuters

LONDON, June 21 — British singer Amy Winehouse, whose career has been blighted by alcohol and drug abuse, has cancelled all her scheduled concerts after she was jeered by fans in Serbia recently for a shambolic performance.

Winehouse, 27, sporting her trademark bouffant hairdo and figure-hugging dress, struggled to perform her songs and keep her balance at the gig in the Serbian capital Belgrade, and on some tunes the audience did most of the singing.

"Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances," a spokesman said today.

"Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen."

The Grammy-winning, chart-topping singer of hits including "Rehab" and "Love is a Losing Game" had been due to perform a series of European dates including Athens tomorrow and Bilbao on July 8.

The tour had been scheduled to wind up on August 4 in Portugal.

The news is a major setback for the artist and her entourage. Only three weeks ago she checked out of a rehab clinic and confidently looked forward to her upcoming tour.

Winehouse, who has struggled with addiction throughout her career, rose to fame in 2006 with hit single "Rehab" and won four Grammys awards in 2008 including best new artist and album of the year.

She was unable to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles because of legal problems, and she is yet to release a follow-up recording. — Reuters
