Peter Jackson posts new ‘Hobbit’ video blog

LOS ANGELES, July 11 – A second production video was posted by Peter Jackson on Facebook July 8, with a behind-the-scenes look before and during a break in filming.

The video opens with directions from Peter Jackson, "The sky darkens...," to signal the end of shooting. A split screen simultaneously shows Jackson's main set as well as the second unit, directed by actor Andy Serkis.

This ten-minute behind-the-scenes peek at The Hobbit includes Jackson and Serkis discussing the production process and division of the lengthy 200+ day filming schedule into three blocks to give cast and crew time off before shooting resumes September 5.

With the first part wrapped, the cast and crew describe what they'll do on the break. It also allows the director to work on post-production visual effects and script revisions.

Next, the video finds Jackson in the south of New Zealand to scout settings that depict Middle Earth to include in the second section of the film. Landcapes include swamps, mountains, rivers and great expanses with panoramic views.

The story finds the hobbit Bilbo Baggins whisked off by the wizard Gandalf to a treasure hunt with rowdy dwarves, encountering ruthless trolls, beastly orcs, gigantic spiders, hungry wolves, and a confrontation with a dragon, Smaug.

The extensive cast includes Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) as Frodo, Ian McKellen as Gandolf and Serkis as Gollum reprising their roles from Lord of the Rings. Other co-stars include Hugo Weaving (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Cate Blanchett (Robin Hood), and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans).

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 3D will be released on December 14, 2012. The Hobbit: There and Back Again will arrive in theatres on December 13, 2013. – AFP

LOS ANGELES, July 11 — Celebrity couple David and Victoria Beckham welcomed a new baby girl into the world yesterday, adding a daughter to the three sons they already have in their growing family.

A representative for the family said the girl, whose name was not revealed, was born "happy and healthy" at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She arrived at 7.55am PDT (11:55 EDT) on yesterday morning and weighed 3.46kg.

"Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are excited to welcome their new baby sister to the family," said family representative Jo Milloy. Brooklyn is 12 years old, Romeo 8 and Cruz 6.

David Beckham is the British football superstar who has played on football teams in the United States, and Victoria is an equally well-known singing star and fashion designer who was a member of the Spice Girls pop music group. — Reuters
