After appealing to the public to help fund her cat café, entrepreneur Lauren Pears, for example, has been able to raise the £100,000 (RM470,256) she needed to get the shop off the ground.

It's a concept borrowed from Asia, where cat cafés are already in existence. Tokyo, for instance, is said to have about 100 such shops alone.

Instead of humans, the café will be staffed by about a dozen cats from a local animal shelter which will be left to roam freely in the shop for feline lovers to pet and stroke.

According to Pears, the café will fill a need in London where many flats and apartments have strict no-pet rules. Animal lovers who are unable to keep a pet will be able to get their fix while drinking a cup of Joe at her café, which she said she hopes to open by May, reported The Independent, which first broke the story earlier this year.

The café is hard to miss as it announces its presence on Foley Street in West London with a dramatic, cast iron, Victorian entrance.Meanwhile, another novel café idea to hit London is The Attendant, where customers pull up stools alongside urinals and tuck into gourmet sandwiches made by a chef formerly of Michelin-starred restaurant Pollen Street Social, reported Vanity Fair.

Though subterranean, the café is hard to miss as it announces its presence on Foley Street in West London with a dramatic, cast iron, Victorian entrance.

What was formerly a public lavatory underwent an industrial cleaning, but elements of its heritage are preserved, including 19th century Doulton & Co urinals which remind customers that they're having coffee where other indelicate procedures once took place.

The Attendant opened last week and serves gourmet sandwiches, salads, coffees and cakes. AFP-Relaxnews
