Former deputy president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic) today denied claims that he had teamed up with the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim in the run up to the FAM's election for office bearers on May 25.

Annuar said his meeting with Tunku Ismail, who is also a candidate for the post of president, was to hear his (Tunku Ismail) views and plans for the election.

Recent reports claim that Tunku Ismail, who is also the Johor Football Association (JFA) president, would be challenging current FAM President Sultan Ahmad Shah and FAM deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in a three-cornered fight during the FAM Congress in Shah Alam on May 25.

Annuar said claims that he had teamed up with Tunku Ismail, was not true.

"We accepted an open invitation from Tunku Ismail because many wanted to hear his views and plans. It will be pointless to team up with me because I cannot contest and I do not have votes," he said.

Annuar who is also the adviser of the Kelantan Football Association, also welcomed Tunku Ismail's open-mindedness in the administration of football.

"I like Tunku Ismail's approach... simple, open and direct, with a clear vision for football and a high level of commitment, and that is something new. I hope the FAM accept the views, problems and feedback from affiliates and delegates," he said. – Bernama, May 14, 2014.

World boxing champion and politician Manny Pacquiao (pic, in blue tracksuit) believes that more young amateur boxers in Asia could bring pride to their countries if they undergo good coaching and suitable facilities.

"We need to encourage and educate them so that they can be inspired," he told reporters after a meeting with AlloyMtd Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Azmil Khalid in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Asian boxing superstar advised amateur boxers, especially from Asia, to love their career and practice strong discipline to attain success.

"When a boxer loves what he does, is a disciplined individual and believes in God, then maybe some day he will become a professional," the current World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion said.

For the record, Pacquiao is the first and only eight-division world champion who won 10 world titles as well as the first to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao, who is on his first visit to Malaysia, was exploring avenues of cooperation with infrastructure conglomerate, AlloyMtd, to scale up and strengthen Malaysia-Philippines business ties.

He was joined by the former governor of the Ilocos Sur province in the Philippines, Luis Chavit Singson. – Bernama, May 14, 2014.
