Mohd Assri who has won a number of titles in the local and international scene would be the main man to end that drought during the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

LTAM executive secretary Ibrahim Abu Bakar said the country's hopes of winning a medal in the Asian Games would hinge on the 19-year-old player who play in the ATP World Tour.

"We hope Mohd Assri will be able to use his experience to win at least a bronze medal in the Asian Games," he told Bernama when contacted.

The election for the post of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president which involves three royalties, and described as the 'Mother of All Elections in local football terms' will not be a 'sandiwara', says FAM Deputy President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The FAM Congress on May 25 which features a titanic three-cornered battle among incumbent President Sultan Ahmad Shah (Sultan of Pahang), Tengku Abdullah who is the FAM Deputy President and Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (Johor FA President) will be held according to the regulations of the FAM constitution.

The post of FAM President will be decided by the 39 affiliates and held under the guidelines of the FAM.

"The Congress is not about the election of president, but rather an election for all posts," said Tengku Abdullah.

Asked what would be his next course of action if he failed to win the post of president, Tengku Abdullah quipped "if unsuccessful, close shop".

Contrary to Tengku Abdullah's views, Tunku Ismail was quoted as saying that the FAM Congress on May 25, which will feature the election for the post of president, was a family affair with the father passing on the baton to his son.

Tunku Ismail was also quoted as saying he was not interested in the post but if given a chance he was ready to bring about changes to the national body. – Bernama, May 6, 2014.
