Arsenal new boy Gervinho banned for three games Posted: 16 Aug 2011 08:45 AM PDT
Gervinho had been suspended for violent conduct, the FA said on its website (http://www.thefa.com) today. The Ivory Coast international struck Joey Barton, who was shown a yellow card, in the face as players from both sides were involved in a second-half melee during the 0-0 draw at St James' Park. Arsenal and Newcastle were charged by the FA yesterday for failing to control their players. Gervinho, who joined from French club Lille last month, will miss Saturday's game at home to Liverpool, the Aug. 28 visit to champions Manchester United and the home match with promoted Swansea City on Sept. 10. – Reuters Full Feed Generated by Get Full RSS, sponsored by Used Car Search. |
Robben fit for Bayern’s Champions League playoff Posted: 16 Aug 2011 07:08 AM PDT
Coach Jupp Heynckes said the Dutchman (picture) was ready to help the Bavarians try to reach the group stages after they finished third in the Bundesliga last season and were forced to pre-qualify. "He trained very well for the past three days," Heynckes told reporters today. Bayern are desperate to go through especially as the final will be held in Munich next year. The financial fallout from failing to advance is also estimated at about £20 million (RM86 million). "We know this is a challenge for us. We are aware of the importance of this game and the demand to reach the group stages," said Heynckes. "We are up against a creative and strong opponent who will not go into hiding against us." The return leg is on Aug 23. – Reuters Full Feed Generated by Get Full RSS, sponsored by Used Car Search. |
