"Descent", which is due for an October 14 release from Thomas Dunne Books and St Martin's Press, revolves around Lilly Caul, one of Kirkman's original characters who returns from Bonansinga's 2012 novel "The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury".

Known in the TV series as Lilly Chambler, Caul helps stage a rebellion against the leader of a fortified town, Woodbury, when it turns out that the post-apocalyptic haven is ruled by a merciless despot.

"Descent" sees Caul head back to Woodbury and engage in a rebuilding effort, reports Entertainment Weekly, and Robert Kirkman gave his blessing to the new story arc.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Jay Bonansinga on more novels. There is quite a bit of unexplored territory left in the Walking Dead universe and I think people are going to love what Jay brings to this world in this medium," he said. – AFP/Relaxnews, April 16, 2014.

Donna Tartt's breakthrough novel "The Goldfinch" has scooped the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, ahead of "The Woman Who Lost Her Soul" by Bob Shacochis and "The Son" by Phillip Meyer.

The 2014 Pulitzer represents a first major awards ceremony win for "The Goldfinch", which is still on the shortlist for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction on June 6 and saw the National Book Critics Circle Award go to fellow finalist and Women's Prize contender "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

"The Goldfinch" takes readers from tragic beginnings to a whirlwind conclusion: young teenage orphan Theo Decker finds himself in possession of a painting by Rembrant protégé Carel Fabritius, after whom the novel is named, and promise to carry out the dying wish of an elderly gentleman takes him on a remarkable journey over the following years.

Tartt's first novel, "The Secret History", was published in 1992, while her follow-up in 2002's "The Little Friend" was also shortlisted for both the Women's Prize (then the Orange Prize) and the National Book Critics Circle Award. – AFP/Relaxnews, April 16, 2014.
