An industrial feel at the Roast FactorGlee. – April 26, 2014.An industrial feel at the Roast FactorGlee. – April 26, 2014.Roast FactorGlee is an all-day breakfast and tea place with an industrial feel and look. It's cosy and welcoming and Tan Shyue Chin, the owner, baker and barista is friendly and informative without being intrusive.  She used to live and work in Panama where she fell in love with coffee.

Now Shyue Chin sources single origin coffee beans, roasts, grinds and makes the coffee. This was also the first thing we ordered. She had recommended the Colombia Cauca and the Rwanda Inzovu. "It's a bronze medallist," she said of the Rwanda Inzovu. "It's clean cut, with a good body and with jasmine and vanilla notes."  Of the Colombia Cauca we got the semi-sweet caramel and floral notes she pointed out but was it hard to detect the tomato hints.  But we liked this one better than the Rwanda Inzovu.

It was 4pm, and we were peckish. And from the menu handwritten on brown paper bags on the counter we picked the Ham Basket with two organic eggs and mini baguette, Baked Eggs with Dill and Smoked Back Bacon and Bread Face, which has brioche, baguette and rundstykker (round Danish bun) served with homemade jam and butter.

It had French ham shaped into a cup holding the organic egg with a little cream in it, and a slice or two of jalapeno. I loved it, the soft egg colliding and the yolk bursting against the crispy, salty ham, with a hot, tingly sensation from the chilli.  The two Ham Baskets came with a mini baguette baked in-house, which was crusty, chewy and nice.

The Baked Eggs with Dill and Smoked Back Bacon was mild and creamy. It had sour cream, yoghurt and cooking cream in it. It was served with a mini baguette too. I wish we had some good French butter instead of the Danish one to go with it.

We had an amazing rhubarb and banana jam with the very nice breads. There were also Cherry Lol (lemon, orange, lime) and Tomato and Strawberry jam which Shyue Chin let us taste. I rather liked the Cherry Lol too with its citrusy flavours. She was also in the midst of making an Apple, Rosemary and Ginger Jam.The moist, rich and lovely Dark Chocolate Pear Almond Cake. – April 26, 2014.The moist, rich and lovely Dark Chocolate Pear Almond Cake. – April 26, 2014.

I was intrigued by the Spice Root Gurls which was like a carrot cake with ginger and virgin coconut oil and a glazed topping with coconut flakes and lime zest on it. The cake was moist, crumbly and delightful.

Even better on another occasion when we dropped by for tea was the Dark Chocolate Pear Almond Cake. Made of almond meal, and studded with pear, it was totally scrumptious. The dark, slightly bitter chocolate was a perfect foil for the sweetness.

It's a dark chocolate cookie with cracks on the surface. Bite into it and it's crumbly, slightly chewy, with moist bits of cranberries inside.

We had some scones too but found the texture too bread-like.

The pancakes are only for the weekend.

The prices: The Ham Baskets are RM15, Baked Eggs with Dill RM18, Dark Chocolate Pear Almond Cake RM13,  Bread Face RM13.
