AFC unable to replace Bin Hammam until next May

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 03:43 AM PDT

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) cannot elect a replacement for banned president Mohammad Bin Hammam until after May 30 next year, the regional organisation's legal committee said today.

Football's governing body Fifa slapped a life ban on Bin Hammam at the conclusion of a two-day ethics committee hearing last Saturday for attempting to bribe Caribbean officials during his withdrawn presidential challenge to incumbent Sepp Blatter.

The 62-year-old Bin Hammam, who was originally suspended by Fifa on May 29, has written to the AFC executive committee saying he would not resign his position and the panel seemed in no hurry to replace the Qatari.

"The members were informed that the legal committee is in agreement that an Extraordinary Congress for the election of president may be convened in the event that the office of president falls vacant for more than one year," the AFC said on its website (http://www.the-afc.com) after a marathon executive committee meeting.

"This means that an Extraordinary Congress for this purpose could not be convened until after 30 May, 2012."

At the end of the five-and-half-hour meeting, acting president Zhang Jilong of China stressed that unity and solidarity would see the organisation through the crisis.

"...today everybody is looking to us for leadership and assurance. Our fans and sponsors want to be reassured that Asian football will not be affected by this great misfortune, and that the 'Future is indeed Asia'," he said.

"I think the meeting was very good for the future of Asia. We are united in solidarity under the leadership of Mr Jilong," executive committee members Kohzo Tashima told Reuters.

However, the general secretary of Japan Football Association acknowledged the challenges ahead.

"It's a very bad, a terrible situation for AFC. Of course Mr Bin Hammam has the right to appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) and of course we respect him but corruption, match-fixing and doping... we have a lot of problems and we would like to be a better AFC for the future.

"Mr Jilong... has a lot of will to change the AFC," he said.

The executive committee also recommended a joint AFC-Fifa task force to tackle match-fixing, which has engulfed South Korea's professional K-League in particular.

It was informed that Fifa was considering opening a temporary 12-month security office in Bangkok, Thailand next year. — Reuters

Sky Sports, BBC win Formula 1 TV rights to 2018

LONDON, July 29 ─ The BBC and Sky have won the live television rights to Formula One between 2012 and 2018, in a move that will see the national broadcaster air just half of a season's races.

Sky will show all races, qualifying and practice sessions live, while the BBC will show half the races and qualifying sessions, including the British and Monaco Grand Prix and the season finale.

The final race of the season will be screened exclusively by Sky Sports should there be an odd number of races.

The BBC will have a highlights package for all of the race weekends it is not covering live, while its Radio Five channel will continue to cover every live race.

The BBC, which bought exclusive rights to the sport in 2009, is under pressure to make savings as part of a wider public service cost-cutting drive in Britain. The cost of buying rights to cover F1 is between £30 million (RM145 million) and £40 million per annum, according to media reports.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone had previously said he was reluctant for TV rights to the sport to go to a Pay-TV channel. ─ Reuters

Hug-a-porn-star at Hong Kong comic fair

HONG KONG, July 29 — A Japanese porn star's hugging contest, as well as covetable limited edition action figures, is drawing record crowds of manga-crazed youngsters to Hong Kong's annual comic fair.

Hundreds of excited teens camped out for days so they could be among the first inside the venue, turning elevated walkways leading into the city's convention centre into makeshift homes.

"We are expecting a record-number crowd this year — higher than ever before," a spokeswoman told AFP as the event opened today. Last year's event drew a staggering 680,000 people.

"Youngsters were queuing up outside nine days ago — they had their sleeping bags, foldable chairs and everything ... We have some hardcore supporters," she added.

Some of those streaming inside were dressed as their favourite characters from anime — the term for Japan's distinctive animation used in television series, films and video games.

Hong Kong is home to many fans of Japanese anime and manga — or comics — and related action figures are among the most sought-after offerings at the fair.

"The limited edition items are very hard to purchase. Basically, I won't get them if I didn't come so early," 13-year-old Jesse Yun told AFP, adding that he had been standing in line for 12 hours through the night.

But apart from the cartoon characters, one of the big draws was the chance for visitors to embrace former Japanese porn star Maria Ozawa.

Extra security was reportedly drafted in to maintain order as Ozawa offered hugs to the first 40 people to enter the five-day fair.

Inside the packed convention hall, 14-year-old Winston Cheng was more excited over the HK$1,000 (RM380) he spent on toy soldiers.

"I've been wanting these for a long time. I'm so happy!" he said.

Alan To, a 16-year-old student, figured the fair offered him a chance to make a sound investment in his favourite anime collectibles.

"What's also good is that the price rises with time — so I may be able to make a few bucks off of it," he said.

Some were even paid to hold a place in line.

"I will get HK$1,500 for lining up here for three days," a primary school pupil told the South China Morning Post, adding that "it's quite a good sum of money for me to spend in the summer holidays." — AFP/Relaxnews

Bill Gates says high school degree no longer enough

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 02:08 AM PDT

BOSTON, July 29 — A high school diploma is not enough to secure the best paying and most interesting jobs, said Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, who dropped out of Harvard University to build his computer company.

"Every student needs a meaningful credential beyond high school," said Gates, who spoke at an education and employment conference sponsored by the civil rights group the National Urban League.

"Higher education is crucial for jobs," he said, adding that education is an equaliser in society and is the key to getting urban America back to work and fighting poverty.

Gates said he believes college should be "for almost everyone," but that parents, teachers and entire communities need to help make those opportunities available.

Despite dropping out of college in his third year, Gates credited his own education, supportive parents and great teachers with his success.

"Our public schools range from outstanding to outrageous and where a child's school is located on that spectrum is a matter of luck," he said. "When it comes to education, we should replace luck with equity."

Getting the most effective teachers into the classrooms and using their best practices to help other teachers improve is critical to making that happen, he said.

Teacher improvement should include feedback from peers and students, to some degree test scores, and even video analysis from the classroom, according to Gates.

Gates, who said there can be good schools in even the poorest neighbourhoods, pointed to some charter schools forging a path with less money and better results.

"It's not about throwing money at the problem," said Gates.

"It's about the way the teachers are picked. It's about the way the teachers are encouraged. It's about the culture of the school, the high expectations," he added. — Reuters

No fanfare for second British royal wedding

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 03:44 AM PDT

LONDON, July 29 — Britain's second royal wedding of the year takes place tomorrow but the marriage of Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter Zara Phillips to her rugby player boyfriend will be far removed from the lavish pomp that surrounded the nuptials of her cousin Prince William.

Phillips, 30, daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband Mark Phillips, will marry England rugby player Mike Tindall, 32, at a low-key ceremony in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

It will be held away from public glare at Canongate Kirk, the parish church of Edinburgh Castle, with a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the queen's official residence in Scotland.

"It's a private family wedding, we're not giving out any details," said a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman.

The contrast between the two weddings of the queen's grandchildren could hardly be more different.

William's marriage to Kate Middleton three months ago grabbed global attention in the weeks beforehand, and royal aides even set up a special website to cope with the massive public interest.

On the day itself, some one million people thronged the streets of London to watch the sumptuous show of pageantry around the wedding at Westminster Abbey while hundreds of millions worldwide watched on TV or online.

However, Phillips has always been considered to be one of the most down-to-earth members of the royal family, and was considered something of a "royal rebel" when she was younger, even having her tongue pierced as a teenager.

"When we met Zara, we noticed she is just so nice and ordinary," Tindall's mother Linda told the Daily Mail newspaper.

"Many a time Mike has said if she worked at Tesco (supermarket) at the checkout it would not matter. It's about her and the sort of person she is."

Like her mother, who represented Britain in the 1976 Olympics, Phillips has enjoyed a successful horse-riding career. In 2006, she won an individual gold on her horse Toytown at the World Equestrian Games in Germany, helped Britain win a team silver and was voted BBC sports personality of the year.

Tindall is also a well-known sportsman — he has played more than 60 times for England and was part of the England team which beat Australia to win rugby union's World Cup in 2003.

Despite the couple's attempts to keep their day low-profile, police said they were expecting crowds to gather in Edinburgh.

In addition to most of the royal family, many sports figures are expected to be among the guests, while former England rugby player Iain Balshaw will be the best man.

Tindall's father told the Daily Mail they had not yet met the queen but had met Zara's parents as well as Princes William and Harry who are both keen rugby fans.

Just like William, who went back to work four days after his nuptials, Tindall will also not have much time to enjoy married life before he returns to England's training camp on Sunday, the paper said. — Reuters

A Minute With: Amitabh Bachchan

MUMBAI, July 29 — Amitabh Bachchan has exchanged his psychedelic shirts and colourful scarves from "Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap" for a shawl and kurta in Prakash Jha's "Aarakshan", a film that sees him portraying an upright school principal.

Bachchan spoke to Reuters about the film, his own school and college years, and what he thinks of India's education system.

Q: From a flamboyant character in "Bbuddah" to a completely different role in "Aarakshan", is there a particular preference for a particular kind of role?

A: "As an actor you enjoy doing everything that comes your way. So it was enjoyable doing 'Bbuddah' and it was equally enjoyable doing 'Aarakshan'. As actors, particularly at this age, it is interesting to get a variety of roles. This was not possible earlier on. When you were younger, you played the leading man which is more or less stereotyped, but with age and character roles coming your way, you get an opportunity to do different kinds of roles."

Q: Would you say you've widened your range of roles with age?

A: "No, I think this is a phase, in which as an actor you do different kinds of things. So yes, it has been challenging. When I first joined movies, I thought I wouldn't last a couple of months, but fate has been kind and the love of the people has been good."

Q: This is your first time working with Prakash Jha. How was that?

A: "Very nice. I've always admired his work and have been very keen to work with him for some time now. Every time we've met, we've expressed this desire but we never had an opportunity until this film, when he narrated the story to me and here we are."

Q: You play an upright school principal in "Aarakshan". What is your reading of the education system in India?

A: "The character that I play is called Prabhakar Anand. He teaches mathematics but he is head of an institute which is run by a private trust and therefore the question of reservation doesn't come in there. But because he has such idealistic thoughts and cares about other sections of society that are underprivileged, even though he teaches in this private institute, he holds classes in his own backyard every day where he teaches students from lesser privileged homes. These children never get an opportunity, and were they to get that opportunity, they would excel.

"He is not somebody that propagates reservation. Reservation is something that nobody can propagate. It is something that is part of our system. It has been accepted and documented in our parliamentary system, our legal system. You can't get away from it. It is something we have inherited, a kind of social order that has prevailed in our society, and whatever has been designed as a result of that, is there through proper democratic representation. But there are many other sub-texts that come up off the whole process of reservation.

"'Aarakshan' is a film not based entirely on this one subject. It deals with the issue of commercialisation of the educational system and how as a result of the process of reservation there are several tributaries that have come out of this process which are making it look as though. If you have the money then you can get educated. Or, if you belong to a certain caste, you will be given a privileged position. But there are those who are deprived of means, that are alienated because of their caste and creed. What of them? That is what the film deals with."

Q: What were the kind of hurdles you faced as a student?

A: "I was very fortunate I went to a college where this consideration wasn't there. I know that there are many who suffer on that count, so I was lucky."

Q: Were there any apprehensions on doing a political film?

A: "This is not a political film. Yes, if someone wants to read into something, they can read into a 'Bbuddah' also. That is a separate issue. Nobody wants to challenge the political system, or do whatever it is. This is not one of those films. There were no apprehensions. You look at the role, you look at the film."

Q: Who were your heroes or mentors when you were studying?

A: "I have always been closely associated with my parents. Whatever I have gained, I have gained from my father. I didn't need to go anywhere else, because I found the biggest source of inspiration in them."

Q: Any piece of advice that your parents gave you while you were studying?

A: "The usual. Study hard, play harder. My mother was more keen … my father was not such a keen sports enthusiast. Honesty, hard work, that's it."

Q: Were you a keen student?

A: "I was OK till school. But college was not so … I chose the wrong subject. I chose science, which wasn't going to be very useful. Had I known that I was going to become an actor, I would have joined an acting institute and gained more knowledge. But I don't regret those years of college. They were marvellous, you discover so many things. Very valuable period of life."

Q: You started a school a while back. What is your vision for that school?

A: "We are working at it. Yes, there is another school also that has been started. The one that we wanted to start has unfortunately run into some government red tape. We wanted to start a school for girls who had to walk many miles to get to a school. We are still working at it, let's see what happens. There are other institutions that we promote and support. Obviously you look to educate people, and more so the girl child, because at that conservative level, they are denied this facility. And I have believed in gender equality, not just in my family, but everywhere." — Reuters

NEW YORK, July 29 — US Vogue's creative director has reportedly sold her highly anticipated autobiography to publisher Random House for US$1.2 million (RM3.6 million).

The memoir is eagerly awaited partially because of the expected revelations on Coddington's boss, the magazine's notorious editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, but also due to the "September Issue" documentary that had many viewers fall head over heels for the grumpy yet charming flame-haired stylist.

Coddington was a successful fashion model before, at the age of 26, she lost her eyelid in a car accident, which was later reconstructed. She continued on to become the photo editor of British Vogue and worked for Calvin Klein in New York before she joined American Vogue in 1988.

The magazine's European editor-at-large, Hamish Bowles, is also working on his autobiography, while the former editor of its French edition, Carine Roitfeld, has collaborated with Purple's Olivier Zahm to release a memoir called "Irreverent," which will be published by Rizzoli in October. — AFP/Relaxnews

Enam pemimpin PSM ditahan bawah Ordinan Darurat bebas

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 02:57 AM PDT

Keenam-enam mereka dibebaskan sekitar pukul 5.30 petang tadi.

Ketika dihubungi The Malaysian Insider, perkara itu turut disahkan oleh adiknya Ahli Parlimen Dr Michael Jeyakumar, Xavier Jeyakumar yang juga Exco Kerajaan Negeri Selangor.

"Ya, isterinya ada bercakap dengan saya. Kami sedang cuba mengesahkan butiran sekarang," kata beliau.

Norman, Memey bebas tuduhan khalwat

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 02:25 AM PDT

Norman dan Memey. — Foto ihsan muraidotcom

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Julai — Pasangan pelakon, Norman Hakim dan Memey, dilepas dan dibebas oleh Mahkamah Rendah Syariah Gombak Timur daripada pertuduhan khalwat hari ini.

Mereka ditangkap khalwat tiga tahun lalu.

The wolf and the seven little goats 2.0

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 05:28 PM PDT

JULY 29 — Once upon a time, there was a mother goat named Narcissa Giannopoulos, who had seven little children. She loved them all dearly — for what else could she do? — and cared for them well. She named them Happy, Dopey, Grumpy, Whiny, Bitchy, Loony and Wayne Rooney.[1]

One day, she wanted to shop for groceries, so she called all her children and said: "Dear children, beware of the wicked wolf. He has a gruff voice, black feet, and smells suspiciously like melted cheese. Don't let him in, or you'll end up as an exciting carpaccio de cabrito lunch with feta, olives, lemon and fresh mint, paired with sliced ciabatta bread and parmesan-rosemary butter."[2]

"Know your legal rights when it comes to trespassing, as any unauthorised entry or physical invasion gives the aggrieved party the right to bring a civil lawsuit and collect damages as compensation for the interference and for any harm suffered," she added.

"But Mom!" the children protested. "We want to play outside. This is Malaysia and statistics show that the overall crime rate dropped 15 per cent last year, with street crime decreasing by as much as 35 per cent compared to the year before.

"Ever since the government implemented measures under the National Key Results Area, the public's fear about crime dropped five percentage points last year, and the public perception of the police force has tremendously improved.

"So OK, we probably still have the occasional human and drug trafficking, credit card fraud and mild corruption. And, of course, the last time we checked, snatch thieves and acid splashers are still at large and terrorising the people. But surely that's a normal price to pay for a rapid economic development?" they continued, rather convincingly.

"We're not having this argument now, young men! Just be careful, have the tear gas canisters at the ready, and don't forget to take a bath," she said in a rather strident voice.

Not long after Narcissa left the house, there was a knock on the cottage door.

"I'm home, children!" said a gruff voice with a slight Hungarian accent. "Open the door, I have a present for you all."

"No, you cannot come in. You are not our mother. She has a kind and gentle voice like Britney Spears, but yours is rough, grating and all throaty like sandpaper. You are a wolf. Go away!" said the little goats.

"Correct, correct, correct," said the wolf, and he quickly left for the nearest Tesco.

The wolf bought a large lump of chalk, which he ate to make his voice softer.[3] After that, he crept back to Goat Cottage, and crouching under the window, he called softly: "I'm back children! And I've bought a present for each of you!"

But the wolf had placed his paws on the windowsill, and when the seven smelly goats saw them, they cried: "No, we will not open the door. Our mother has white paws, and yours are black. By simple deduction, you're a wolf! Go away!"

So the wolf went to a local deli and said: "I have hurt my paw, put some dough on it." The baker was too nervous of the wolf to refuse, and he did as he was told.

Next, the wolf ran off to the miller and growled: "Put some flour on this paw of mine, will you laddie?" The miller was too scared of the wolf to say no,[4] so he put the flour on the beast's paw.[5]

The wolf returned to Goat Cottage, knocked on the door again and called: "Open the door children! It's your mother!"

The seven little goats heard the soft voice, and saw the white paw he showed them.

"That can't be our mother!" said Grumpy.

"Yeah," concurred Dopey. "The person at the door sounds like her, looks like her, but of course, is not her."

"Look lads, we should at least attempt to properly apply the 'Goat Test' [6] here," argued Loony. "I mean, if the person looks like a goat, smells like a goat and bleats like a goat, then we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a cloven-hoofed ruminant mammal of the Capra aegagrus hircus subspecies at the door. This could actually be our mother."

The little goats continued to argue among themselves and soon, they began to experience an altered state of mind due to doubts, extreme emotional conflict and immense discord.[7] The wolf's method — although not necessarily aggressive, relentless, oppressive and unscrupulous here — was clearly working and amid all the confusion, the children finally opened the door.

Much to their horror, it was of course the wolf! The beast burst forth into the room, looking very horrible indeed and smelling like rotten cabbage.

The seven terrified little goats scurried for cover. The first hid under the table, the second in the bed (soiling himself in the process), the third in the laundry basket (along with already soiled linen, so that wasn't so bad), the fourth behind the chair, the fifth in the cupboard, the sixth behind the sofa, and the seventh in the big grandfather clock.

But the wolf found them all, and he — if you'll pardon the pun — wolfed them down one by one, that greedy bastard! The devouring and gorging was too horrendous to describe in great detail here. In fact, doing so would have required this story be published with a PG rating.

After such an enormous meal, the wolf quaffed a few Chardonnays, tottered out of the cottage and sat under a tree. He let out a mighty belch, farted happily a couple of times and happily proceeded to doze off. It was summer and warm and who could blame him?

When mother goat Narcissa returned, she was utterly shocked to find the terrible sight that greeted her. The house was a mangled mess — overturned table, stools and benches, broken washtub, etc. — and she could not find her children anywhere.

She called them all by name and until a reply came: "Here I am, mother! I'm in the grandfather clock."

Her eldest son, Happy — who, as you can imagine, was not too happy at this point — came out and told his mother what happened.

They rushed outside and found the wolf plonked under a tree like Jabba the Hut, fast asleep and snoring thunderously. The mother goat saw something moving inside the wolf's stomach, and she thought to herself: "Oh my goodness! Maybe my poor children are still alive? This flies in the face of logic, but that's very convenient for me, so I'm not going to complain."

"Quick! Fetch me a large scissor, and a needle and thread before the wolf wakes up!" she ordered.

She then cut open the wicked wolf's hairy coat with all the surgical virtuosity, panache and efficiency of Black Jack [8] performing a Laparoscopic Banding surgery. Out popped one little goat, followed by another, and then another, until all six were set free. They were quite unharmed, because the greedy monster had swallowed them all whole instead of chewing properly like his mum told him many years ago.

Mother Goat and her children danced and sang and hugged each other, as was their wont. They were mighty elated to be reunited, and we all know how goats can't really handle separation anxiety very well.

But there was one more thing to do before they could continue with their celebration. The mother said: "Quickly, go and fetch as many stones as you can find, so we can fill up the wolf's stomach before he wakes up."

The children gathered a pile of huge stones, and put them into the wolf's belly. Their mother then sewed up the tummy using proper suturing techniques, and all the while the greedy wolf did not stir.

How on earth did the mother goat manage the feat sans anaesthetic and sterilised tools without the wolf suffering from septic shock, you may ask. That is really outside the scope of this fairy tale and, therefore, will not be debated here.

When the wolf woke up at last, he was parched and craved for a Red Bull™. He got to his feet to have a drink, and the stones tumbled about inside his stomach. He groaned:

"There's something peculiar and I feel funny,

Some foreign objects, clattering about in my tummy.

When I ate those kids, they tasted so yummy,

But now I feel sick and nauseous — oh blimey!"

He staggered down to the river and bent forward to have a drink, but the heavy stones made him lose his balance. The poor bastard fell head first into the river, was swept away, and never to be seen again.

When the incident was reported, the wolf's next of kin insisted on a full-blown inquiry by the authorities. After an unnecessarily lengthy investigation, where all manner of witnesses were called forth, and all sorts of evidence considered, the cause of death was declared to be neither homicide nor suicide.

But it was not all in vain. His demise inspired the rather spectacular pop single and Grammy Award-winning music video, "Hungry Like the Wolf" which shot the British New Wave band Duran Duran into international superstardom.

The moral of the story is, well, there's none, really.

Notes:

[1] Yes, not unlike that other fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dafts.

[2] Quite what father goat would have said cannot be established, since he was neither consulted nor featured at all in this story.

[3] This has never been scientifically proven. The closest we got to proving this was when some of us were forced to eat blackboard chalk at boarding school for being naughty boys. The punishment didn't quite work and, thankfully, we didn't end up sounding like Tommy Page or Justin Bieber.

[4] If you encounter a talking wolf running around frantically, I imagine you would be scared too.

[5] This is obviously a cheaper alternative to Body Shop's Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream, a protective and soothing hand cream infused with Angelica extract and Organic Olive oil to condition and soften the hands, leaving them silky soft to touch!

[6] Liberal adaptation of the "Duck Test": If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

[7] We are really talking about a bunch of young and highly impressionable kids here.

Baby talk

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 05:13 PM PDT

JULY 29 — My four-month-old daughter Athena has entered the phase where she babbles and screams in singsong style for hours on end.

As a first-time parent, it's absolutely exciting to see my kid chatting away and laughing. But it can get pretty scary too at times.

It really starts to become a cause for concern when the little kid starts to talk to inanimate objects all around her.

One of the books my wife and I have been reading to Athena is titled "My Pet Monkey" and it seems to be one of her favourites.

This kind of broke my heart since I thought her favourite book would be "Operation Nasi Kerabu — Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgency", written by yours truly.

(By the way, it's available at all major bookstores for RM25 and comes with a free documentary DVD. Rest assured that all proceeds will go to buying milk and diapers!)

One afternoon, while I was watching television (I mean, I was watching Athena, honey!), I heard her squealing and gurgling quite loudly.

I turned around and saw that "My Pet Monkey" had somehow fallen next to her with the big pop-up monkey head right by her face and she was talking to it!

Another time, I was watching Bersih videos on YouTube (I mean, I was watching Athena, honey!) and again I heard her babbling quite loudly.

I turned around to see her (I had propped her up on the bean bag in front of the TV) trying to have a conversation with Piers Morgan on CNN.

Another afternoon, while I was watching downloaded episodes of Conan O'Brien (I mean, I was watching Athena, honey!), I heard loud babbling from her direction.

Athena was staring straight ahead and she was, yet again, trying to strike up a conversation. But this time, it was with absolutely nothing!

Now you have to understand my concern. I always thought that if I have a kid, he or she would inherit my intelligence.

But now that my daughter is actually talking to things that human beings of average intelligence don't talk to, I naturally blame my wife for it.

"Why is our daughter trying to talk to her shoe?" I asked my wife.

"She's a baby!" she replied.

"She's supposed to be smart. This must be your genes."

"What are you talking about?"

"Well, I have a master's degree. You only have a bachelor's degree. So it can't be my genes, can it?"

Of course, my mother had to ruin everything when she revealed that when I was Athena's age, I screamed at the bars of my playpen as if I was debating in Parliament.

Well, what else can we expect? Our daughter is naturally going to be a chatterbox considering that her pops talks like an over-excited Hakka while her mother is a TV presenter.

But it's all good because the sound of little Athena babbling away is the best alarm clock in the morning and the perfect pick-me-up after a hard day of work.
