| The rarest whiskey just for RM4.7 million Posted: 17 Jul 2013 05:34 PM PDT A whisky maker has created what it is calling its rarest collection of bottles yet, made in part from some of the oldest and most valuable stock of whiskies in the world. Scottish distillery The Dalmore has partnered with luxury London department store Harrods to launch The Dalmore Paterson Collection, named after master distiller Richard Paterson who assessed, nosed, tasted and selected each whisky blend for the lot of a dozen bottles. The price tag for the world's only collection of its kind? A cool £987,500 (RM4.7 million). Whiskies range in date from 1926 to the 1990s and make up a surprisingly personal collection linked to Paterson. Bottles are named after either important figures in Paterson's life such as his father and grandfather, as well as James Whyte and Charles Mackay, the founders of The Dalmore's parent company. "I personally have invested a huge amount of time ensuring that each of these 12 expressions represent the very best of the incredibly rare and valuable stocks that we nurture up at the distillery in Alness," said Paterson in a statement. Nick Fleming, wine and spirits buyer for Harrods, also helped choose the whiskies. Bottles are handcrafted, full lead crystal decanters made by crystal house Glencairn, while luxury jeweler Hamilton & Inches hand-engraved the silver that embellishes the bottles. All12 bottles are presented in a wooden case that took cabinet maker Gavin Robertson more than 700 hours to design and craft. Accompanying the collection is a calfskin leather-bound ledger detailing the process in Paterson's own handwriting. Each page has been hand-folded and foiled in silver, before being bound. Meanwhile, according to the Guinnes World Record, the most expensive whisky ever sold at auction was a single bottle of a 64-year-old Macallan in Lalique, which was auctioned off for $460,000 USD (RM1.3 million) at Sotheby's in New York in 2010. | Habits, not cravings drive food choices when you’re stressed, study reveals Posted: 17 Jul 2013 04:03 PM PDT Are you a stress eater? A small study announced July 16 finds that for people who eat during times of stress, habits may drive food choices. While conventional wisdom dictates people tuck into fatty or unhealthy foods when stressed out, this isn't always the case, said Dr David Neal, head researcher of the study conducted at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). "Habits don't change in a high-pressure situation," he said. "People default to what their habits are under stress, whether healthy or not." In the study, 59 business school students at UCLA were asked during midterm exams which snack they would like from an array of choices, which included healthful options like nuts, fruits, and yogurts as well as less austere choices, such as candy bars, flavoured popcorn, and cookies. They also were asked to rate how often during the week they ate that type of snack. The results found that during peak stress, participants were likely to fall back on their habitual snack, whether it be a candy bar or an apple. "Habits are 45 percent of daily life," Neal said. "They cause us to disregard rational or motivational drivers and instead be cued by context, automated actions, time pressure and low self-control." Prior research from the University of Southern California has found that when stressed, people fall back on established routines, and this includes healthy habits, such as going to the gym to burn off steam, as well as bad ones, such as overeating or shopping sprees.
