Chelsea hit Arsenal for six in Wenger’s 1,000th game

Goals from Samuel Eto'o, Andre Schuerrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar (2) and Mohamed Salah coupled with Marriner's decision to send off Kieran Gibbs for a handball by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will ensure Wenger remembers the day for all the wrong reasons.

The sending-off did little to affect the destination of the points, however, as Arsenal were already 2-0 down when Gibbs was dismissed for his team mate's indiscretion and Hazard stepped up to covert the resulting penalty.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho extended his unbeaten record against his bitter managerial rival to 11 games and the league leaders moved seven points clear of third-placed Arsenal having played a game more.

Second-placed Liverpool, who are also seven points adrift of Chelsea with two games in hand, visit Cardiff City later on Saturday and Manchester City, in fourth, host bottom club Fulham.

This was Arsenal's biggest defeat since they were thrashed 8-2 by Manchester United in 2011 and will feature high on Wenger's list of worst performances in his 17-1/2 years in charge.

It was the second time in six weeks that Arsenal had visited a major title rival and left with their tails between their legs after their 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool last month.

In a similar vein to that encounter, their defence was all at sea in the early stages, allowing Chelsea to effectively wrap up the points within minutes of the kickoff.

"We started incredibly," Mourinho told BT Sport. "Seven minutes gone we were 2-0 up, it's game over.

"We started very strong. I sent the message across that it was very important that we really want Arsenal to feel not comfortable.

"The way they play. We managed to do that...we were too strong for them."

The visitors had the first chance with Olivier Giroud forcing a smart save from Petr Cech after four minutes but seconds later they fell behind.

Superb finish

With Arsenal over-committed, Chelsea sprung forward quickly and Schuerrle fed Eto'o in acres of space on the left of the penalty area. The experienced striker cut inside a half-hearted challenge and curled a superb left-foot finish into the corner.

With the Arsenal defence in disarray, Chelsea struck another rapier-like blow after seven minutes, again exposing Arsenal's open left flank with Schuerrle this time applying the finish with a low drive across Wojciech Szczesny into the corner.

It was then Marriner's turn to rival Arsenal's blundering backline for the day's costliest error as he flashed a red card in Gibbs's direction after Oxlade-Chamberlain had made a diving fingertip save on the line to deny Hazard.

Replays showed an incredulous Oxlade-Chamberlain mouthing "it was me" at the official, but the decision stood and Gibbs trudged to the touchline before Hazard calmly stroked the penalty down the middle of the goal after 17 minutes.

Mourinho, often the quickest out of the blocks to criticise officials, this time came to their defence.

"There were lots of people in box," he said. "From the bench you couldn't see, one of my assistants said it was (Mikel) Arteta, one said Chamberlain. The penalty is a penalty and the red card is a red card, but the wrong player."

The match was over as a contest but Chelsea continued to toy with their opponents, adding a fourth through Oscar who was set up by Fernando Torres to finish from close range three minutes before the break.

Arsenal's calamitous afternoon was neatly encapsulated when Szczesny made a hash of saving Oscar's curling shot which bounced up off the ground before tamely finding the net.

Salah came off the bench to slot his first goal for the club under the Arsenal keeper for Chelsea's sixth. – Reuters, March 22, 2014

TED turns 30 with new chapter of ‘ideas worth spreading’

Posted: 22 Mar 2014 01:27 AM PDT

March 22, 2014

TED turns 30 years old with a mind-sizzling mix of intrigue, wonder and passion in the renowned gathering's new home in Canada.

A conference born in California in 1984 that grew into a global forum for heady "ideas worth spreading" ended yesterday after gazing thoughtfully at the past and looking optimistically ahead.

"The platform has gotten more interesting to more people," Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) curator Chris Anderson told AFP.

"We are planning on taking every opportunity to go deeper into issues; to present a core idea and add to it with ways to get involved."

TED has won a global following for trademark "talks" during which the brilliant, innovative, artistic or accomplished deliver thought-sparking presentations in 18 minutes or less.

Broad range of TED topics

Topics at the five-day TED gathering ranged from mind-controlling parasites and bionic limbs to intestinal microbes and collective consciousness.

Female fashion model Geena Rocero used the TED stage to, for the first time, tell how she was born a boy in the Philippines but become a woman to match her "inner truth."

"Some of my neighbours, friends, colleagues, even my agent didn't know about my history," Rocero said on the TED stage.

"Not a lot of people can say that their first job was pageant queen for transgender women, but I'll take it."

Internet spying and online privacy were hot topics at the gathering, known for attracting Internet entrepreneurs such as founders of Google, Amazon, and Netflix.

That debate was set ablaze by the surprise appearance of United States' former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden in the form of a robot controlled remotely from his hideaway in Russia.

"Doing it by tele-presence really excited him," Anderson said of Snowden showing up in robot form to roam the conference, even stopping for photos with Google co-founder Sergey Brin and others.

"He liked the geekiness and the symbolic appeal of the bot."

Snowden's virtual visit to TED, and his promise of sensational new revelations to come, prompted the NSA to weigh in via video link a day later to argue that his "arrogance" has put lives at risk and terrorists on guard.

"It was an intense experience, it definitely pushed my own margin of comfort to the edge," Anderson said.

Anderson saw this year's move from California to Vancouver as symbolic of the gathering's evolution into a global platform for ideas.

Anderson and Peter Diamandis of the X PRIZE announced a competition to reward those behind the first artificial intelligence creation that gives a TED talk compelling enough to earn a standing ovation.

A 'primal' experience

Looks at TED's past and visions of the future were woven through the week, with MIT Media lab founder Nicholas Negroponte predicting by the end of the next three decades, people will ingest knowledge the way they do vitamins.

"Ultimately, TED is tapping into something that is quite primal – a circle of humans looking a speaker in the eyes, hearing a story told and feeling what the speaker is feeling in a shared experience," Anderson said.

The first TED gathering was a venue for elite thinkers to hear about and discuss new ideas.

Since then scientists, political leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and musicians have taken to the stage at the tech-focused gatherings.

In 2006, TED began to record talks and post them for free online at their TED.com website. The website was recently upgraded to let viewers delve deeper into ideas and take action.

As TED talks were posted in more languages, traffic to the website soared. Talks have spread to television and radio. Captivating TED speakers have become Internet stars.

"The dinner party has turned into a global phenomenon – a banquet for the whole world," said Richard Saul Wurman, who started the gatherings that Anderson's non-profit Sapling Foundation has nurtured into the TED of today. – AFP, March 22, 2014

Hijab design takes centre stage at Tokyo Fashion Week

This photo taken on March 19, 2014 shows a model displaying a creation by Indonesian fashion designer Windri Widiesta Dhari. – AFP pic, March 22, 2014. Among the aspiring Asian designers competing for the limelight at Tokyo Fashion Week, one of the most striking was an Indonesian label's bid to blend a traditional Muslim headscarf with haute couture.

The twice-yearly show, which wraps up today, saw NurZahra roll out its autumn/winter collection "Layers of Fidelity", turning the modest hijab into sophisticated fashion.

The label – whose name means "the luminous light" in Arabic and takes from Fatimah Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Mohammed – wanted to prove that the female hair-and-neck-covering wrap, common in the Islamic world, could still take on playful elements.

"The modest hijab is not actually a restriction" in fashion, designer Windri Widiesta Dhari told reporters after her stylish designs hit the catwalk.

"It's how you cover yourself and look more elegant in a way that has a loose fit."

The wearing of the Islamic veil, limited historically to conservative Gulf monarchies, gained ground, including in sports, since the 1979 Iranian revolution and the creation of an Islamic republic.

Use of the veil spread quickly as Islamist movements grew in the wake of the Arab Spring uprisings.

France has outraged many Muslims with a law against full face-covering veils, while the use of the hijab in sport, including football, has sometimes stirred cultural clashes.

But Dhari sees the traditional scarf as not just a modesty covering, but also a stylish, comfortable accessory.

"We want to inspire people to think that wearing hijab is not something difficult, and could be worn by anyone," she said.

Her collection also bucks a contemporary design trend for simplicity and minimalism.

Blending cotton or silk into her hijab, she includes natural dye prints that rely on a traditional Japanese tie-dye technique called shibori and the Indonesian batik method.

With patterns ranging from mini mandalas to Turkish geometrics, Dhari plays with multiple layers of fabric to freely shape her silhouettes.

Another eye-catching element of the collection was a hat that spreads wide in the back, a throwback to the sixties with elements resembling a long-ago royal head piece.

"The concept of the hat was actually inspired by the style in one from 1963," Dhari said. "I was looking for vintage hats that could be used to cover your hair and also your neck.

"I used that inspiration and then mixed it with a traditional ethnic concept, so it becomes something very unique."

Tokyo has long been the centre of cool, renowned the world over for its far-out fashions that see young women donning gothic-inspired "Lolita" outfits and chiseled young men with highly coiffed haircuts.

But at the latest Tokyo Fashion Week, it was newcomer brands from several Asian fashion houses outside Japan, such as NurZahra, which breathed fresh air into the show in the Japanese capital.

Another Indonesian brand, Major Minor, hit the runway for the first time, showcasing styles incorporating mainly monochrome tones and simple silhouettes.

The opener of the event was Thai brand Sretsis – "sisters" in reverse – led by designer Pim Sukhahuta, who works alongside two female siblings.

Among their offerings was a cartoon-like print – girls' faces dotting the fabric – that meshed touches of American high-school and Japan's "Lolita" themes. – AFP, March 22, 2014.

Elsa Pataky gave birth to the boys – who will join a 22-month-old daughter the couple already have – on Thursday in Los Angeles's Cedars Sinai hospital.

Spokesman Robin Baum confirmed the new arrivals but gave no further details.

The TMZ celebrity news website reported there was tight security at the celebrity hospital, with two security guards outside their room's door and another accompanying Hemsworth.

The hunk actor – the star of two "Thor" films as well as 2012's record-breaking "The Avengers" – married Spanish model/actress Pataky in 2010.

Born in Melbourne, the 30-year-old appeared in Australian soap "Home and Away" and made his big-screen debut in 2009's "Star Trek". But it was the "Thor" movies that catapulted him to wider prominence.

Lennon’s doodles, drawings and nonsense poems to be sold in New York

Ranging from gibberish descriptions of Lennon's native city Liverpool, in northern England, to a drawing of a "National Health Cow" in an apparent jab at Britain's national health service, the collection reveals a lesser known side of the celebrated British singer, who was shot dead in 1980.

The drawings and original manuscripts are part of the collection of publisher Tom Maschler, creator of the prestigious literary award the Booker Prize, who published them in two books, "In His Own Write" (1964), and "A Spaniard in the Works" (1965).

The collection, named "You Might Well Arsk", has a pre-sale estimate of around US$800,000 (RM2.6 million) over 89 lots, Sotheby's said.

The sale coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first appearance in America on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. Watched by 73 million Americans, it shot the band to stardom.

The drawings and poems all date back to the early 1960s at the height of "Beatlemania", Sotheby's said.

One of the unpublished typescripts contains a reference to the record-breaking British band's first single "Love Me Do", released in 1962.

"The Beatles (a band) hab jud make a regord... a song they whripe themselves called 'Lub Me Jew'," Lennon wrote in his characteristic gibberish style.

"It's very much like Lewis Carroll. 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking Glass' were two of Lennon's favourite books from childhood and he read them on a yearly basis," said Philip Errington, director of printed books and manuscripts at Sotheby's.

"It is gibberish, it is gobbledygook, and yet it's funny, it's humorous verse."

Not everyone was as convinced of their literary value. In a parliamentary debate in 1964, a Conservative politician, Charles Curran, used Lennon's nonsense verse to attack Britain's education standards.

"He (Lennon) is in a state of pathetic near-literacy," Curran said. "He seems to have picked up bits of Tennyson, Browning and Robert Louis Stevenson while listening with one ear to the football results on the wireless."

Maschler tracked Lennon down at a concert after coming across the drawings and writings in 1962 and convinced him to make a book out of them.

The New York sale will take place on June 4. – Reuters, March 22, 2014.

Seksis di kalangan lelaki Melayu

Posted: 21 Mar 2014 04:38 PM PDT

March 22, 2014

Hanya 5 muka surat sahaja saya berceritakan tentang hubungan seksual.

Tolonglah terima hakikat. – 22 Mac, 2014.

In the name of the football, the club and the ‘holy’ goal

Posted: 21 Mar 2014 04:24 PM PDT

March 22, 2014

Anand K.Pillai (a.k.a. K.Anand) is the number one Gooner (that's Arsenal supporter, for the uninformed) in Malaysia. He promises to be fair and balanced when writing about some of their rivals, but hopes readers will excuse the occasional lapse.

Being the supporter of a football club is like giving a commitment that one would give to a close, long-term friendship or even relationship.

Of course, for some, it is almost a family-like commitment too. One cannot change clubs based on its fortunes on the pitch, because the club, like family, is for life.

But for many true blue (or red, depending on the club you support) fans, supporting a football club is more like being a follower of a religion.

One does not choose the club, but instead one is called or chosen to be a "devotee" of the club.

In the current environment in our country, where some despicable people, for their own self-serving purposes, stoke the fires of religious fervour and discrimination, I would like to think that football is a "safe religion" to follow and that which truly unites people of diverse ethnic and social backgrounds.

I have thought of this topic for a long time now, but I have been moved to write on it after the events of the past month.

On the road to a greater goal

Firstly, let me share about an Arsenal supporter from the United Kingdom, who made a life-changing decision, following a devastating personal loss.

Anderson's effort to raise money for charity and travel the world has been endorsed by Arsenal FC, who invited him for an interview at the Emirates Stadium last August.Anderson's effort to raise money for charity and travel the world has been endorsed by Arsenal FC, who invited him for an interview at the Emirates Stadium last August.Peter Anderson, more popularly known as the Gooner On The Road (GOTR), lost his mother to breast cancer in February last year. She was 57.

He describes it as the lowest point of his life, that he was in a "bad place" and needed a new challenge to help him move on from the tragic loss he had suffered.

Anderson had his calling to be an Arsenal supporter while a young lad of 10, when by chance, he watched The Gunners defeat Italian side Sampdoria in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final in 1995, on TV.

So, after more than 15 years of growing in his faith as a Gooner (as Arsenal supporters are called), and experiencing the best of the Arsene Wenger years, he decided to use his passion for Arsenal to aid in his healing.

Anderson, who turns 30 in November, made a promise to travel around the world - traversing the European continent, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, China and Macau – watching every single Arsenal match live on TV with one or more Gooners in the host city.

At the same time, he made a commitment to raise funds for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of his late mother, as she had passed away after losing the battle to that fast-spreading strain of cancer.

His goal is to raise US$15,000 and he is about 30% short of his goal at the moment, since starting his trek last August. There is a link to donate direct to the Foundation from his blog, www.goonerontheroad.com.

One unique thing about his travels is that he is couch-surfing his way across the various cities. Couch-surfing follows the principle of staying for free, "sleeping on the couch" at the home of a stranger.

In this case, he stays with Arsenal supporters based on the network of official Arsenal supporters clubs around the world. The simple rationale for this is to travel on a very low budget in order to keep to the spirit of the fund-raising effort.

He arrived in Kuala Lumpur on March 4 and has been staying over at my apartment, with occasional short breaks to other destinations in the country, namely Penang and Sabah.

With the away game against Chelsea tonight, Anderson would have watched his fourth Arsenal match while in Malaysia – 2 in KL, 1 in Penang and 1 in Kota Kinabalu.

He plans to be back in London for the last home match (2nd last match of the season) at the Emirates Stadium against West Bromwich Albion, on May 3.

Recognising his faith and passion for The Arsenal, the club invited Anderson to write about his travels for the official Arsenal.com website.

The Gooner On The Road with the official Arsenal Malaysia supporters club at a match viewing party. The Gooner On The Road with the official Arsenal Malaysia supporters club at a match viewing party. He will be moving on to Vietnam, China and Macau next, before returning to London. To complete his objective, Anderson will write a book about his travels, and if it is anything like Fever Pitch, that ultimate non-fiction account of the life of another Arsenal devotee, Nick Hornby, then I am sure Gooner On The Road (working title) will be another "bible" for current and future Arsenal fans to look forward to.

Passion of a pioneer

As much as I love Arsenal, I recognise and respect the passion of those who fervently support other football clubs too.

On that note, I wish to pay tribute to a man "who started it all" for the supporters' club movement in Malaysia.

His name is Laurence How, and he started the official Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC) back in 1992.

Sadly, I learnt of his passing last Saturday. He lost his long battle with leukaemia. He was 66.

Laurence was generous and helpful in his advice to me when I first wanted to start the Arsenal supporters club back in 2000. I will always appreciate his advice and support for the supporters' club movement in Malaysia.

I also must thank him for he fulfilled the wish of my late eldest brother who was a lifelong Manchester United supporter and was one of the first 100 to sign up for the MUSC in 1992. He passed away in 1994.

May you rest in peace, Laurence.

Tweet heard around the world

Now for the final tribute, this time to a faithful Liverpool supporter on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

His name is Andrew Nari and his daughter's tweet had been a heart-wrenching piece of news for anyone who read it, regardless of which team you supported.

Maira Elizabeth Nari tweeted last Sunday, during Liverpool's match at Old Trafford, "Daddy, Liverpool is winning the game. Come home, so you can watch the game! You never miss watching the game. It's your very first time. :')"

You can feel the love in that message, and after reading it on this website and on the official Liverpool FC website, I was almost moved to tears reading all the response from Reds supporters from around the world.

As a supporter of a football club, sacrifice is one of the key traits one has to demonstrate their faith in the club.

The flight MH370 chief steward had never missed watching his beloved Liverpool, as his daughter's message stated. That is enough for me to know where he stood as far as his faith in Liverpool is concerned, and for that I salute you Andrew Nari.

I also pray that all on board flight MH370 are safe. – March 22, 2014.
