Chef Homaro Cantu takes viewers into his iNG kitchen in new show

CHICAGO, Nov 19 — Chicago chef Homaro Cantu of iNG Restaurant has launched his own online food show, described as a mash-up of TV programmes like Restaurant Impossible and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations.

CookiNG Under Pressure takes viewers behind the scenes into the kitchen of Cantu's iNG Restaurant in Chicago, where the menu changes every six weeks.

Sound familiar? That may be because another celebrity chef in the Windy City also has a pop-up style restaurant which changes menus every three months: Grant Achatz's restaurant Next.

And while Achatz may be the bigger household name around the world, one of Cantu's claims to fame - aside from his avant-garde "mad scientist" cookery - is his strange and victorious 2006 performance on Iron Chef America, in which he defeated Masaharu Morimoto in a battle with a laser printer that caramelised edible packaging material, and liquid nitrogen beet balloons.

In the first episode of CookiNG Under Pressure, meanwhile, Cantu takes the crowd-sourced menu suggestions from the restaurant's Facebook page to settle on the next dinner theme: "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

The show also features use of the flavour-changing 'miracle' berry, the centrepiece for iNG in which the West African fruit is used to transform sour and bitter foods and challenges taste buds.

It's not the first show Cantu has done. His 2009 show Future Food on US eco-channel Planet Green also followed the chef as he and pastry chef Ben Roche came up with inventive, futuristic edible creations that defied conventional cookery.

The next episode airs on January 1, 2013. — AFP-Relaxnews

Brewing a slow culture

The interior of The Brew Culture. — Pictures by CK Lim

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — "Take me home."

You've only just entered the café and already you've been offered a little gift. On a tray there are rows of old milk cartons, now filled with sun-dried used coffee grounds, ready to be carried away. Once home, you can employ the grounds as a deodoriser in the bathroom or the kitchen, or add it to your plant's fertiliser.

Here at The Brew Culture, the coffee bean has gone green.

Wooden crates are transformed into low coffee tables. The bookshelves and benches are made from used wooden pallets collected from nearby industrial sites. The interior is unabashedly minimal, from the concrete floors to the simple light bulbs that are scattered all over the café.

The details matter: used cartons as lightshades and plaid-padding for chair legs.

A closer look reveals more details – from the used milk cartons that are transformed by colourful illustrations into funky lightshades to the pieces of plaid cloth that wrap the bottom of the table and chair legs to reduce noise when the furniture are moved.

This feels like a quiet little Wonderland, only Alice is happily reading a book without being harassed by the Mad Hatter. Indeed, it's not a frenzied tea party that's been organised but rather slow mornings and lazy afternoons spent in conversation or solitude over copious cups of coffee.

It's a far cry from the Mondays through Fridays spent rushing to the office to clock in before the boss arrives. A quick pit-stop at one of the many coffee chains that dot the city, an order of a triple-shot caffè latte shouted over the din of other caffeine-deprived corporate drones, scalding hot coffee spilling over your new tie because the barista didn't seal the lid over the cup properly and you're wondering to yourself, as you try your best to clean up in the gent's, why you do this every morning?

Free used coffee grounds for customers to take home.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if every day was a weekend?

No matter. Monday will come again, the week shall repeat. For now you are content to have a place to sit down, have the company of other seekers of an excellent brew, and to simply take your time.

I first came upon The Brew Culture a few months ago, when they first opened. There's an adage amongst foodies never to judge an F&B outlet by its maiden month in business; too many things can and do go wrong, even with veterans in charge.

Yet there's never a sense of chaos in this café; during subsequent visits the ambience simply got more assured and comfortable. Perhaps this may be attributed to the café owners Hiew Kuei Yin and Jeffrey Ng. As former schoolmates and engineers, they both have a finely attuned sense of what they want their café to be. There's no rush even as Jeffrey shares stories about how they'd go around looking to reclaim old pieces of wood or crates to be reused as furnishing.

Different types of coffee.

The Brew Culture can seem so languid one imagines time does not pass here. Yet it does. As Hiew brews a Sumatra Mandheling for me ("It's Tiger 19+," he tells me and I nod sagely, though I have no idea what that means), I notice his long ponytail is gone, replaced by a Captain Sparrow-ish bandana.

When I point this out, he merely winks and says he felt it was time for a change. Certainly things are different from his engineer days.

I've noticed my friends are not immune to the café's charms either. One would drop in the evenings after work to decompress over a freshly-brewed black coffee and a thick book to lose herself in. Another drops by during the weekends to escape the crowds in the shopping malls and research his upcoming holiday in Hong Kong.

Everyone finds their own space here to take things slow, breathe again and figure out what's next.

In this fast-paced and highly stressful modern life we lead, who's to say this slow culture that's brewing isn't exactly the antidote we so desperately need?

Slow down, drink some coffee, breathe.

A café regular reading a book.

Spain’s Ferrer pushes Davis Cup final into last match

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 08:23 AM PST

PRAGUE, Nov 18 — World number five David Ferrer today cruised to a 6-2 6-3 7-5 win over Tomas Berdych to put defending champions Spain level with the Czech Republic at 2-2 in the Davis Cup final.

The Spanish victory means everything comes down to the final match of the best-of-five tie between Nicolas Almagro of Spain and Radek Stepanek of the host nation later.

"The important thing is that we have got back to 2-2 and the pressure is on them now," Ferrer told Spanish television.

Spain are bidding for a fourth Davis Cup title in five years, while the Czechs want to become the first country in 22 years to win the men's and women's team titles in the same year.

Stepanek has defeated Almagro twice, but the two Czech players have played in all the matches during the weekend and are coming off a bruising four-set doubles win over the Spanish duo of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez yesterday.

With one extra day of rest, Ferrer looked fresher and one step ahead of Berdych, giving the crowd of more than 13,000 at Prague's O2 Arena little to cheer.

"He's played a lot of matches. But as for me, I played very focused, very aggressive and started really well and maybe (that) was the key," Ferrer said.

Ferrer, Spain's leader in place of injured former world number one Rafa Nadal, looked at ease on the fast hard court.

He opened the match with an ace, while another ace stopped Berdych's momentum in the fifth game, helping Ferrer breeze to the first set.

The 30-year-old Spaniard, who is coming off a career-best year, looked in control after that as he made the tall Czech chase the ball.

Berdych showed some fight in the third set, breaking the Spaniard to level at 4-4, but Ferrer quickly steadied himself to close out the match. — Reuters

Liverpool’s Sterling apologises to Watson over collision

LIVERPOOL, Nov 18 — Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has wished Wigan Athletic's Ben Watson a speedy recovery after a freak collision between the pair yesterday left Watson with a suspected shin fracture.

Sterling, who made his England debut midweek, used his Twitter account to offer an apology to Watson following the Reds' 3-0 win at Anfield.

Midfielder Watson was taken from the pitch in the first half when he was struck just above the shin by Sterling's knee as both competed in the air for the ball.

"To Ben Watson I didn't realise it was serious as that ill (sic) be praying for a speedy recovery mate ill (sic) have you in my prayers every day. #sorry," posted the 17-year-old.

Following the defeat, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez expressed concern for Watson as well as Gary Caldwell, who has a problem with his hamstring.

"The injury to Ben Watson is a really nasty blow and what we believe to be a broken leg," Martinez said on Wigan's official website. (http://www.wiganlatics.com).

"We will have to assess the injury and the treatment that Ben will need before we can judge how long he is going to be missing.

"Ben was starting to have a very strong season and was putting in some commanding performances and it is a real shame to lose him to an injury like that."

Martinez also accused Liverpool scorer Luis Suarez of stamping on David Jones. — Reuters

Artist in profile: El Perro del Mar

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 06:40 AM PST

El Perro Del Mar's latest album "Pale Fire". — All rights reserved.

STOCKHOLM, Nov 18 — Laidback dreamy electro pop artist El Perro del Mar has been climbing into public consciousness since the release of her self-titled album in 2006; now she is causing a big buzz with the release of her critically acclaimed fourth studio album Pale Fire.

Who? El Perro del Mar, literally meaning "The Dog of the Sea" in Spanish, began life back in 2003 in Sweden as the musical project of Sarah Assbring. After seeing initial limited success on the Swedish label Hybris, her self-titled 2006 album was picked up by UK-based label Memphis Industries, home of The Go! Team. Since then Sarah has built a strong following, is a frequent presence on the music blogs and has featured on works by upcoming artists such as Chad Valley.

Why the buzz?
Sarah Assbring just dropped her latest studio album Pale Fire on November 12/13 (UK/US) to widespread critical acclaim. UK-based music mag The NME rated Pale Fire 7/10, the BBC praised the chilled-out lovelorn album, poetically stating Sarah's presence on Pale Fire was "a shivery presence, like moonlight on flesh", and popular music blog Prefix mag gave Pale Fire 8.0 out of 10.0 noting Sarah's "depart[ure] from her generally twee and mostly acoustic melodies in favor of house-music-influenced electronic production".

What to listen to? One of the most buzzed tracks on the album is the sublime "Walk On By," which can be streamed on Soundcloud at http://soundcloud.com/pias-france/el-perro-del-mar-walk-on-by or stream the album in full on Hype Machine at: http://hypem.com/featured/premieres. Pale Fire is available to purchase in various formats, including MP3, through El Perro Del Mar's official website at: http://www.elperrodelmar.com/shop.html.

Where to see?
Sarah Assbring is currently on a UK tour and will be bringing her laidback brand of dream pop to Hamburg on November 15, then Berlin on November 16 before a short break takes her to Sweden on November 22. The tour, which also encompasses France and Spain, concludes on December 13 in Helsinki. Check out full dates at http://www.elperrodelmar.com/news.html. — AFP-Relaxnews

DOHA, Nov 18 —A showing of Indian director Mira Nair's "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" opened the fourth Doha Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, with US actor Robert De Niro in attendance.

The film tackles the sensitive issue of relations between Islam and the West through the dilemma of a young Pakistani Harvard graduate and Wall Street trader who struggles to reconcile pursuit of the American dream and his Muslim roots.

"The Reluctant Fundamentalist," which received funding from the Doha Film Institute, also opened the Venice festival in July.

Nair won the Venice Golden Lion award for her 2001 drama "Monsoon Wedding."

The Tribeca Film Festival in New York, co-founded by De Niro to revitalise Manhattan's cultural life after the September 11 2001 attacks, teamed up with Qatar to organise the fourth annual Doha festival.

Two other films dealing with radical Islamism are among the 27 being shown -- Moroccan Nabil Ayouch's "Horses of God," centring on the 2003 Casablanca bombings, and French-Algerian Merzak Allouache's "The Repentant," about a jihadist who leaves his hideout to return home. — AFP-Relaxnews

Unwelcome headlines fuel Jersey anti-finance dissent

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 07:49 AM PST

JERSEY, Nov 18 — Channel Island Jersey has done well from the finance sector, and many locals want to keep it that way, but some are calling for reform of the tax-haven model that feeds it at the expense of public coffers elsewhere.

Jersey's capital St Helier, with its mix of French and English street names, seems an unlikely satellite to the financial hub of London, yet since the 1960s it has developed a formidable offshore banking and finance sector that now accounts for more than two-fifths of the island's economy.

Its critics typically get short shrift.

Jersey deputy Geoff Southern: Public anger at tax avoidance by corporations and the excesses of the scandal-hit banking sector has emboldened a movement to clip the wings of finance in Jersey.

"The stock phrase for anyone who complains about how things are here is 'There's a boat in the morning'," said Geoff Southern, a Socialist politician in the island's parliament who thinks it should be rebalancing the economy away from finance.

"People are scared to speak out for fear of losing their jobs," said Jersey native John Christensen, former economic adviser to the island's government and now a director of Tax Justice Network and campaigner against tax havens.

Richard Syvret, the founding director general of Jersey's financial regulator, is an unlikely fellow traveller with those who think the island has too many eggs in the finance basket.

"I do feel very much that Jersey is obsessed with money and the finance industry," he said over lunch in one of St Helier's many squares.

"I think a number of people would deny it, but ... the facts speak for themselves. We have devoted ourselves to it, and I think it's to our detriment."

Jersey, a 116 sq km island off the coast of Normandy in France but a British Crown Dependency through a quirk of medieval history, sits outside the United Kingdom and the European Union.

As a self-governing parliamentary democracy, it runs its own tax regime, which charges no capital gains or inheritance taxes and, for most businesses, no corporation tax, either. Finance firms pay just 10 per cent.

Unwelcome headlines

Jersey's government and financial regulators have fought hard over the years to dispel an image of shady offshore banking and criminal money held in secret accounts.

Economic Development Minister Maclean: Clean bill of health from the IMF and independent academics.

"Reviews from the IMF and independent academics show that we meet or far exceed regulatory standards," said Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean, sitting in Cyril Le Marquand house, a grey government building named after the politician and businessman credited with developing the finance industry in Jersey.

But Southern, from his office on Royal Square, commanded by a gold statue of George II, isn't convinced.

"It's clear that we've set up a system that facilitates tax evasion," he said.

Last week the island found itself written into unwelcome headlines after Jersey account details for more than 8,000 clients of Europe's largest bank, HSBC, were leaked to Britain's Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper said known criminals were among the account holders, while British tax authority HMRC is checking the list against its own records to root out tax dodgers.

Ethics of tax avoidance

The fact that the island's industry can thrive off money moved offshore at the expense of public budgets in places like Britain makes Southern, who was born in England, uncomfortable.

"Whenever I hear that GVA (the main measure of economic output on the island) has gone up, I think, 'That's three hospitals not built in Britain, because that's tax revenue the UK Treasury misses out on'," he said.

Others fear the island would struggle if it were thrust back on older sources of income — Jersey Royal potatoes and bucket-and-spade holidaymakers.

"If Jersey had to rely on its traditional industries - agriculture, tourism ... it wouldn't be the vibrant place it is today," said Robert Perchard, who runs a 300-cow dairy farm and is a director of the island's largest potato grower.

His 80-year-old mother Anne, who has lived on 22 hectares of farmland in the northwest of the island since 1957, thinks the island will find new ways to make ends meet.

"The Jerseyman has always been resourceful — and entrepreneurial," she said.

Margaret Thompson, a Scot who sells mansions to some of Jersey's wealthiest arrivals, has clung on to her Glaswegian accent after 33 years on the island, and wants to cling on to the status quo, too.

"People are happy with the way things are here," she said.

She believes families come to Jersey for a better lifestyle, not just the lower taxes.

Her views, like those of the Perchards, could well be tested in the coming years.

The European Union is exploring new tax structures that will remove the opportunity for companies to funnel profits through tax havens, while the opportunities for tax evasion by individuals are also narrowing.

Jersey is party to a few dozen information-exchange deals that allow the relevant countries to get evidence on tax evasion once they strongly suspect wrongdoing.

Fair tax campaigner Christensen believes Jersey will have to sign up to an automatic exchange of information that would lay bare the tax affairs of those banking in Jersey.

"If they don't sign up, the US will come down on them like a ton of bricks," he said, "and then Europe will demand the same.

"Jersey is going to have to rethink its strategy." — Reuters

Asia’s coming out: Shanghai International Debutante Ball 2013

SHANGHAI, Nov 18 — While Paris is set to present to society the newest batch of princesses and heiresses at the Bal des Débutantes November 24, Shanghai is gearing up for the second edition of the Shanghai International Debutante Ball, to be held at the Peninsula Shanghai on January 12, 2013.

Earlier this year, Shanghai played host to the country's first International Debutante Ball, with 13 young women from around the world formally introduced to the city's social scene. Next January, expect to see more glitz and glamour at the event as a bevy of new debutantes "come out" to society, decked out in high jewellery creations by Chaumet and wearing couture gowns made by Chinese homegrown talent Tina Fu.

Vivian Chow Wong: Directly linked to the original 1780 ball.

"Asian societies, as in Europe, are very independent.  Some even have great language barriers," Vivian Chow Wong, executive director and producer of the Shanghai International Debutante Ball, told Relaxnews. "I am hoping my ball will help to narrow this gap in years to come."

According to Wong, "Shanghai has what it takes to be the leading 21st century metropolitan city", and this Asian leg of the international debutante ball season differentiates itself from the others for several reasons:

1) The ladies come out at 10pm as was the custom in King George's time.

2) The debutantes come out wearing a real diamond-studded tiara at every ball.

3) All the gowns are designed "made-to-measure" for each debutante.

4) It is the only major debutante ball that has an alternate ball — "The May Ball" — to raise funds as a private charity.

Top Asian hairstylist Kim Robinson putting the finishing touches to the debutantes' hair earlier this year for the photo shoot.

Relaxnews chatted with Wong to find out more.

R: What are some of the criteria in your selection of debutantes?

VCW: In general, a debutante of the Shanghai International Debutante Ball should be a young lady from a family of prominence in society. Preferential considerations will be given to debutantes whose parents or ancestors are known to have carried out exceptional civic duties in their respective communities.

She must have a sound reputation and maintain a clean record. She can be an achiever in her own rights. Ideally, she has attained a certain level of accomplishment in a particular field, notably in the arts or a sport generally associated with the nobility.

She must be free of any controversy and scandal. Parents of a debutante must be free of any controversy, scandal and criminal record.

R: Tell us something interesting which you've come across when selecting debutantes.

VCW: While I do not penalise girls carrying a Birkin, I do draw a line at any debutantes using crocodile bags (unless proven to be vintage). So far the girls I met have been very well mannered. I make a lot of enquiries before meeting them so no time is wasted on either side.

R: Any names of who will appear at the next ball?

VCW: I am sorry, this is confidential until the day of "coming out".  The whole point of "coming out" is about the "first time". You will know on January 12, 2013.

R: Are debutantes born or made?

VCW: Born. Definitely. I believe in fate and destiny. I believe everyone is born to fulfil a certain kind of life.

R: Why create an Asian edition when most of the debutantes from last year were non-Chinese? (Most of the debutantes from last year's ball were European.)

Last edition's Debutante of the Year Larissa Scotting.

VCW: Asian families are not familiar with the culture of debutante balls, with the exception of the Philippines. In order for the right Asian debutantes to reach a ratio of even 50 per cent, it will take some time. Asia lacks an international debutante ball, hence I created it.

In time, when the Asian countries are open to the idea of debutantes, we hope to have a more even balance of ethnic attendance.

R: Will there be more Asian entrants this year?

VCW: There will be mainland Chinese girls. This was lacking in the last one. Not that there were none [who would have been eligible], I just did not come across one, then.

R: How relevant is the notion of the debutante and the debutante ball today? Is it archaic?

VCW: Debutante ball is a form of immersive art. As long as there are girls aspiring for a white wedding, there will be a need of a debutante ball.

R: There are plenty of other society events in Asia where young socialites are shown to high society — tell us what makes your event different from theirs?

VCW: My ball is an annual event with strictly laid out structure and rules. It is also directly linked to the original 1780 ball by way of the London Season's Queen Charlotte's Ball. It is a private event, it has no committee and is not involved with any charity as I have my May Ball to compensate for the charity element.

The Shanghai Ball is also a bona fide international ball with British aristocrats officiating.

R: Tell us more about some myths or false ideas people might have about the Debutante Ball and/or about debutantes in general?

VCW: The Debutante Ball is not a match-making ball. At least not in the British sense. It is originally meant for young ladies, even married ones, to be presented at Court, although we no longer present girls to a Monarch, the London's Queen Charlotte's ball and the Shanghai Ball follow the British system.

R: What do you think is the difference between English high society and Chinese high society?

VCW: This is a tricky question. Hong Kong is very different to Shanghai to start with. All I can say is, for me, until there is a formal ball for young ladies to "come out" from, the area of "society lady" remains very blurry. — AFP/Relaxnews

Chinese art star Yue brings ‘laughing men’ to Europe

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 05:13 AM PST

PARIS, Nov 18 — The painted grins are stretched so wide they seem to hurt.

And that is pretty much what Yue Minjun intended, the Chinese artist explained at the Paris opening of his first major show in Europe.

A former electrician turned contemporary artist, Yue shot to international attention in 1999 when his signature laughing-man self-portraits made a much-noted eruption at the Art Biennale in Venice.

"If I paint laughter it is because I feel pain towards human life," the 50-year-old, one of China's most bankable art figures, told AFP through an interpreter. "I found a comical way to express something tragic."

Where does this sense of tragedy come from? "It's first and foremost a perception of human life. But it's also a feeling towards the world we live in," he offered.

"Yue Minjun — L'ombre du fou rire" exhibition poster.©All Rights Reserved

Clothed in black, his head smooth, Yue confessed to feeling "a little anxious and shy" at the sight of the four dozen paintings and 100-odd sketches that went on show Wednesday at the Fondation Cartier, where they will remain to March 17.

"It's the first time I've seen so many of my works displayed at the same time," he told AFP. "It's also the first time I get to examine myself.

"I spotted quite a few clumsy touches in my paintings," he quipped. "I said to myself I must be one of those painters who does not know how to hide. I say things in a direct and simple way."

Yue's cartoon-like characters are cast in contorted poses, or scenes that reference the Cultural Revolution, like the 2000 "Memory 4", where a crowd of people inside a man's skull tout what looks like Mao Zedong's Little Red Book.

"Sunrise", painted in 1998, features a crowd of laughing faces lifted towards the rising sun.

"A lot of visual memories stem from my childhood," he explained. "It was the socialist experience. When I was a child, a great many works used to depict happy people, full of confidence, living an ideal life."

Goya and Manet inspiration

Other works reference the European art canon, such as the 1995 "The Execution", inspired by Goya and Manet, in which both the half-naked victims and gunmen are bent with laughter in front of what look like the walls of Beijing's Forbidden City.

Seen as one of his most political works, "The Execution" fetched €3.74 million (RM14.5 million) at auction at Sotheby's in London in 2007.

But the artist does not like to be described as "political". His critique is about culture, he says, namely the way that "in traditional Chinese civilisation the individual is not important".

Born in Daqing in northeastern China, Yue grew up under the Cultural Revolution, working first as an oil field electrician before enrolling to study art in 1985 in Hebei province.

In 1991, he joined an artist community in a village near Beijing.

Still reeling from the fallout of the Tiananmen Square massacre two years earlier, he and other artists founded a current known as "cynical realism", now one of the most influential contemporary art movements in China.

Fondation Cartier director Herve Chandes said mounting the show was a challenge, since Yue's works were spread out across Asia, Europe and the United States — and the artist kept little trace of their whereabouts.

For the Paris show, Yue loaned around 100 preparatory sketches, which had never before been shown outside the studio he shares with a handful of assistants near Beijing.

The exhibit also features snaps of Yue, taken by his brother, which he used to paint his emblematic alter-egos. A slideshow reveals the artist dressed only in underpants, laughing and pulling faces as he lunges out at the camera lens.

Today Yue is still painting laughing men — but is also exploring new avenues, for instance in a series of portraits obtained by rubbing one canvas up against another.

"Usually paintings are passive. Here I want to make them active, I want them to do something."

But whatever he does, Yue is not out to comfort the viewer.

"There are artists who paint calm things to bring you tranquillity. I try to stimulate people with my paintings to help them find strength." — AFP/Relaxnews

Hunter novel, France, Goncourt for pets,

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 04:55 AM PST

PARIS, Nov 18 — A jury including the literary provocateur Michel Houellebecq this week handed out a prize dubbed the "Goncourt for pets" to a novel about a hunt gone wrong.

©All rights reserved

The Hunting Party by 42-year-old Agnes Desarthe tells of a young man who is injured during a hunt, and while he awaits rescue falls into "conversation" with a wild rabbit about the meaning of life — both animal and human.

"The idea of the novel came from meeting hunters who showed me a love of nature and animals, which I hadn't been expecting at all," the author told AFP.

"How can people kill what they love? That is something I cannot understand. Maybe that is what crimes of passion are about. So perhaps we should see hunting as a kind of crime of passion?

The offbeat animal-themed prize, awarded by the French animal protection group 30 Millions d'Amis, traditionally wraps up France's book awards season, and is bestowed in the Paris restaurant that hosts the real Goncourt, France's top literary award, each year.

The award carries €1,000 (RM3,870) in prize money, which the winner donates to the animal charity of his choice.

Houellebecq, who won the Goncourt in 2010 for his work The Map and the Territory, was asked to sit on the jury because of his well-documented passion for animals — which he has called a "crazy love".

Tolak katak politik

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 04:15 PM PST

Fame is but a fruit tree, so very unsound

It can never flourish, till its stock is in the ground

So man of fame, can never find away

Till time has flown, far from their dying day

                                               Fruit Tree — Nick Drake

Nik Aziz label Umno murtad tolak Islam

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 01:57 AM PST

"Tak kira siapa pun, tak kira kalau tok guru sekalipun, kalau murtad...murtad lah.

"Usahkan Umno, tok guru berserban, berjanggut, kalau dia tolak Islam dengan cara ... hati dia betul, Islam tak guna ... dia murtad walaupun tidak ada mufti beritahu, tapi kalau dia tolak Islam dengan sengaja, yakin bahawa Islam tak guna ... dia murtad," katanya kepada pemberita.

"Umno tolak Islam, maka nampak dia memperlekehkan Islam. Dia buang Islam, macam lekehkan benda salah ... macam ubat habis tempoh dia buang.

"Umno tolak, tolak alim ulama dia sendiri ... jadi sekarang Umno pelawa PAS membela Islam ... alim ulama sendiri kamu tolak, mana boleh nak terima ulama kami. Ini logiknya.

"Jadi kalau ajak kami nak jaga Islam, yang ulama kamu sendiri kamu tolak usahkan nak terima ulama aku," tegas Nik Aziz.

Hadi bersedia dilantik jadi PM

Posted: 18 Nov 2012 01:39 AM PST
